Sudakshina Alagia singing raga Maru Bihag on May 7, 2011 in California. Sudakshina Alagia began singing at the early age of 9. She completed her Bachelors in Music (Sangeet Prabhakar) at 15 and continued to study Hindusthani Classical music from Pdt. J. V. Subba Rao, a classical vocalist of Gwalior Gharana. Through her studies in School and College, she won several awards and competitions. For past 14 years, she has been the foremost disciple of the renowned vocalist Lakshmi Shankar of Patiala Gharana. She has performed in US, Canada , India and London . She has performed along with as well as in the presence of acclaimed artists like Pundit. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pundit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Ustad Sujat Khan, Sri Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan and collaborated with dancers like Viji Prakash, Rama Bharadvaj and others. She has won All US and Canada Bhajan Contest and sung for TV Series in India and National Geographic Documentary. She has also worked with pop groups Liquid Blue (US) and sacred 8 tribe ( London ). She is associated with The Center for World Music and has been connected with Pilot Programs to bring Indian music to inner city California Schools and has been guest lecturer of music at UCSD and USD. She has released both classical and Bhajan CDs. Her latest CD was recorded with Pandit Ramesh Mishra and Sri Arup Chattopadhaya . Sudakshina was the lead singer for the presentation "Geet Gobindam" that won the prestigious Lester Horton Award in 2008 Sacred Music Festival in Los Angeles . Recently, she participated in the presentation "India Calling", a musical presentation by Bharat Ratna, Pandit Ravi Shankar in the infamous Hollywood Bowl.
